Formula 1 H2O Season Opener in Cagliari
The picturesque setting of Lake Su-Siccu in Cagliari has once again become the focal point for motorsport enthusiasts as it officially marks the commencement of the 2026 Formula 1 H2O season. This thrilling marine motorsport event returns to Sardinia after a long hiatus since 2004, making it a significant occasion for both the city and the sport.
Following a day of free practice, the stage was set for 18 competitors to showcase their skills in a series of timed laps and overtaking maneuvers. In the morning’s qualifying session, reigning champion Sean Torrente from the Victory Team demonstrated his prowess by securing pole position. The American driver, aiming for his fifth world championship title this year, was closely followed by Rusty Wyatt of the Sharjah Team, who clinched second place, while Stefan Arand from Estonia rounded out the top three, each poised to play a pivotal role in the upcoming race.
The afternoon featured two exhilarating sprint races. Torrente showcased his dominance in the first race, leading consistently to claim victory ahead of France’s Peter Morin and Poland’s Bartek Marszalek. Unfortunately, Italian driver Comparato was forced to retire due to a mechanical failure, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the sport.
In the second sprint race, Wyatt emerged victorious, surpassing competitors Anderson and Arand. Arand, who was in second place until the final lap, faced an electronic issue that briefly hindered his performance. However, he managed to secure third place following a post-race penalty assessed to Trask.
As the event progresses, tomorrow promises an exciting finale featuring a warm-up session from 10:15 to 11:15, followed by a demonstration of two-seater boats from 12:30 to 14:00. A parade lap is scheduled for 14:45, leading up to the highly anticipated Grand Prix of the Sardinia region in Italy from 15:05 to 15:50. The day will culminate in a prestigious awards ceremony, celebrating the achievements of the participants.
