Release of qBittorrent 5.0.5
On April 13, 2025, the latest iteration of the torrent client qBittorrent, version 5.0.5, made its debut. Developed using the Qt toolkit, qBittorrent serves as an open-source alternative to µTorrent, offering a familiar interface and robust functionality. The project’s source code, crafted in C++ and JavaScript, is publicly available on GitHub under the GPLv2+ license. Users can find builds of qBittorrent compatible with Linux, Windows, and macOS. Notably, the journey of qBittorrent began with the release of version 4.0 in November 2017, followed by the introduction of version 5.0 in September 2024.
Among the standout features of qBittorrent are:
- Integrated search engine
- RSS feed subscription capability
- Support for various BEP extensions
- Remote management via a web interface
- Sequential downloading in specified order
- Advanced settings for torrents, peers, and trackers
- Bandwidth scheduler and IP filtering
- Interface for creating torrents
- UPnP and NAT-PMP support
The recent update to version 5.0.5 brings several enhancements and fixes:
- Resolved previously identified bugs and issues
- Introduced extended configuration options in the “Add New Torrent” dialog for modal mode
- Improved serialization of command-line parameters
- Removed missing color identifiers for themes
- Updated localization efforts
In late October 2024, the qBittorrent development team released version 5.0.1, addressing a long-standing bug related to the improper validation of SSL/TLS certificates, a vulnerability that had persisted for 14 years. This critical fix effectively mitigated the risk of man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks, enhancing user security significantly.
