Adobe Apps Coming to Arm64 Windows

This week, the first “Copilot+ PC” notebooks from Microsoft and other PC makers have started shipping to consumers. These laptops are equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite or Snapdragon X Plus chips, based on Arm designs. While these laptops can run x86 apps via Microsoft’s Prism emulation, some apps have been ported over to work with Arm64 chips running on Windows 11.

A new report reveals that Adobe will soon release native Arm64 versions of some of its popular apps for Windows. According to Windows Central, Microsoft’s Vice-President of Windows Marketing, Aaron Woodman, announced that Illustrator and InDesign will launch native Arm for Windows apps in July. Premiere Pro and After Effects will follow suit, but not until 2024.

These native apps are expected to run on Copilot+ PC notebooks with Snapdragon X chips, offering better performance compared to using x86 versions via the Prism emulator. Microsoft has also established an Arm Advisory Board to assist developers in creating new Arm apps for Windows or porting existing x86 apps to the Arm platform.

In addition to Adobe, Google, Vivaldi, and Opera have already launched Arm versions of their browsers for Windows. Slack has also introduced a beta preview of its business chat service for Windows on Arm. The tech industry continues to embrace Arm architecture for enhanced performance and compatibility.
