Android 15 is preventing Windows Phone Link from showing certain notifications

If you frequently utilize the Phone Link app on your Windows device, you are likely accustomed to the seamless mirroring of your phone notifications. However, with the recent update to Android 15, users may find themselves facing a new challenge regarding the visibility of certain notifications.

Changes in Notification Access

As highlighted by Android Authority contributor Mishaal Rahman, Phone Link has begun notifying users that some notifications may no longer be displayed. This change stems from a new feature introduced in Android 15, which aims to enhance user privacy by restricting access to sensitive notifications.

With the latest Android updates, Phone Link no longer shows notifications that contain sensitive details for your protection.

This adjustment is part of Android 15’s initiative to prevent third-party applications from accessing notifications deemed sensitive. Notifications that include elements such as two-factor authentication codes will be classified as “sensitive.” Consequently, only applications that are considered “trusted” and possess the RECEIVESENSITIVENOTIFICATIONS permission will be able to access these notifications. Typically, this permission is granted to system apps, although companion applications for devices like smartwatches and smart glasses may also qualify, even if they are developed by third parties.

While Phone Link is categorized as a third-party application, it is expected to navigate around the restrictions imposed by Android 15. Rahman notes that Phone Link should be recognized in a companion capacity, allowing it the necessary permissions to access sensitive notifications. However, it appears that Phone Link will only request this designation if the user is operating a Samsung device with One UI 6.1.1 or later.
