Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7965 (Dev Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7965 (KB 5079385) to the Dev Channel. This update brings a host of changes and improvements, which are categorized into two primary areas: new features and notable fixes. These enhancements are being gradually rolled out to Insiders who have opted in to receive the latest updates through Settings > Windows Update.

New features gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

[Administrator Protection]

The reintroduction of administrator protection is designed to safeguard free-floating admin rights for users. This feature allows administrators to execute all necessary functions with just-in-time privileges. By default, this feature is turned off but can be activated through OMA-URI in Intune or via group policy settings.

[Sharing]

In response to user feedback, refinements have been made to the drag tray. A smaller peek view has been implemented to minimize accidental activations and facilitate easier dismissal when interacting near the top of the screen.

[File Explorer]

  • Voice typing (activated with Windows key plus H) is now available for renaming files in File Explorer.
  • The previously noticeable white flash when launching new File Explorer windows or tabs, particularly when set to open to This PC, has been eliminated. Additionally, white flashes during the resizing of File Explorer elements have been removed.
  • Improvements have been made to enhance the reliability of unblocking files downloaded from the internet, allowing for smoother previews within File Explorer.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2 through an enablement package (Build 26300.7965).
  • Many features are deployed using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, beginning with a select group of Insiders and gradually expanding as feedback is assessed.
  • The desktop watermark located in the lower right corner of the screen is a standard feature for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • For those eager to be the first to experience features gradually rolled out to you, you can enable the toggle to receive updates via Settings > Windows Update. Over time, we will increase the rollout of features to all users with the toggle activated. If you choose to keep this toggle off, new features will be rolled out to your PC at a later date as they become ready.
  • It’s important to note that some features and experiences included in these builds may never reach a public release as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced, and may not extend beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these innovations could appear in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Localization for some actively developed features may not be fully completed, and adjustments will occur over time as features are finalized. If you encounter localization issues in your language, please report them through the Feedback Hub.
