Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.8170 (Dev Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.8170 (KB 5083632) to the Dev Channel, a significant step in our ongoing journey to refine and enhance your experience. Changes in these builds are categorized into two primary segments: new features and improvements, including notable fixes. These updates are gradually rolled out for those who have opted to receive the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update. For further details, please refer to the Reminders section at the end of this communication.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

[Storage]

  • The size limit for formatting FAT32 volumes via the command line has been increased from 32GB to an impressive 2TB.
  • Performance enhancements have been made for navigating large storage volumes through Settings > System > Storage > Advanced Storage Settings > Disks & Volumes.
  • The Settings > System > Storage page has been updated; users will now encounter a UAC prompt only when accessing temporary files, rather than immediately upon entering the page.

[Network]

  • An issue that caused unrealistic data usage values in Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage has been resolved.

[Windows Security app]

  • We are rolling out enhancements to the Windows Security app, specifically within the Device security > Secure Boot section. This update introduces color-coded icon badges and new text that reflects your device’s Secure Boot state and certificate status. Microsoft is actively updating Secure Boot certificates on consumer devices and select business PCs, allowing users to check their certificate status through this new feature. Note that this experience is disabled by default on enterprise IT-managed devices and servers.

[Feedback Hub Improvements]

  • We extend our gratitude to Windows Insiders for their invaluable feedback regarding the new Feedback Hub version. Currently, we are rolling out version 2.2604.101.0 to Dev and Canary channels, which includes design refinements inspired by your suggestions:
    • The default window size has been improved, and it will now remember its size across sessions.
    • Users can utilize the mouse back button to navigate between pages.
    • Issues related to community feedback visibility have been addressed.
    • Upvote buttons for feedback are now displaying correctly for Insiders using the Chinese display language, among other enhancements.

Please keep the feedback coming! You can share your thoughts under Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Feedback Hub.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package (Build 26300.8170).
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, initially targeting a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as we monitor feedback.
  • The desktop watermark displayed in the lower right corner of the desktop is a standard feature for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • For those eager to receive features gradually rolled out to you, you can activate the toggle to get the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update. Over time, we will increase the rollout of features to everyone with the toggle enabled. If you choose to keep this toggle off, new features will be rolled out to your PC over time as they become ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may not be released to the public, as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced and may not extend beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features could appear in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features currently under development may not be fully localized; localization will occur as features are finalized. If you encounter localization issues in your language, please report them via the Feedback Hub.
