Reports have emerged from several Reddit users encountering difficulties while attempting to install Google Chrome on their Windows PCs. This issue has not gone unnoticed, as our team at Laptop Mag experienced the same challenge when trying to install Chrome on four separate Windows 11 laptops. Each attempt was met with a perplexing message, prompting further investigation into the matter.
In a thread on Reddit, one user remarked, “It’s not just you,” indicating that they too faced obstacles with the installer. They shared their workaround, noting success with the installer from ninite.com, while the direct download from Google remained problematic across multiple devices running both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Another user echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the issue might be specific to Chrome itself. They reported difficulties while setting up a new image at work, even on a standard work PC that was not operating in S Mode. This led to speculation that a glitch in the latest release of the installer might be the culprit.
Interestingly, our attempts to install Chrome on a MacBook Pro 14 M2 Pro were seamless. However, the same could not be said for a Windows 10 laptop, which displayed the same “this app won’t run on your PC” message. It became evident that this issue was predominantly affecting Windows users.
In light of these challenges, we reached out to both Google and Microsoft for clarification. Google responded, confirming their awareness of the issue and indicating that a fix had been implemented. Following this update, we and our colleagues attempted the installation once more, and this time, we were met with success. As of now, it appears that the problem has indeed been resolved.

- Click on the install Chrome button, which will redirect you to a page presenting three options: Open, Allow, and Install.
- Select “Need more help?” on this page.
- On the subsequent page, scroll down to “How to install Chrome” and opt for the offline installer.
- This action will initiate the download of a separate installer named “ChromeStandAloneSetup64,” distinct from the usual “ChromeSetup” installer.
