CrowdStrike Bug hit 8.5 Million Windows Devices, Says Microsoft

Global Tech Outage Impacts 8.5 Million Microsoft Devices

A global tech outage caused by a software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has affected nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices, according to a blog post from Microsoft. Despite the relatively small percentage of devices impacted, the consequences were widespread and significant.

The software update from CrowdStrike, a major player in the cybersecurity industry, led to system failures that disrupted air travel, knocked broadcasters off the air, and left customers without access to essential services like healthcare and banking.

Microsoft stated that CrowdStrike has developed a solution to help expedite a fix for Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure. The tech giant is also collaborating with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to share information and address the industry-wide effects of the outage.

On the ground, the air travel industry is slowly recovering from the disruption, with thousands of flights canceled and passengers facing long delays. Delta Air Lines reported over 600 cancellations by Saturday morning, with more expected throughout the day.
