Don’t have a Copilot key? Microsoft is adding a keyboard shortcut for you

Enhancing Accessibility to Microsoft’s Copilot

For the past year, newer Windows PCs have featured a dedicated Copilot key, designed to provide users with quick access to Microsoft’s AI assistant. However, feedback has revealed a split among users: while some have repurposed this key for alternative functions, others find themselves wishing for a straightforward way to engage with Copilot without the need for a new device.

In response to this demand, Microsoft has announced an exciting development—a new keyboard shortcut that allows users to summon Copilot without needing the dedicated key. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for those who are eager to utilize the AI assistant but are not ready to invest in a new laptop.

The upcoming feature will enable users to initiate a voice conversation with Copilot by holding down Alt + Space for 2 seconds. Once the conversation is complete, users can simply press Esc to conclude the interaction. Notably, the conversation will automatically end if there is a pause in dialogue for several seconds, ensuring a seamless experience.

This new shortcut is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders across all channels, although a timeline for broader availability to all Windows users remains unspecified.

Additionally, Microsoft has undertaken a significant overhaul of the Copilot app for Windows, rebuilding it from the ground up. This revamp integrates the app more natively into the operating system, enhancing both performance and the quality of results. For those who may have previously overlooked the capabilities of Windows Copilot, this might be the perfect opportunity to revisit the experience.
