I love this Windows 11 clipboard utility, but it needs a new name

A new clipboard manager for Windows 11 has emerged, promising enhancements over Microsoft’s existing solution in several noteworthy aspects. Currently in its early development phase, “Edge Drop” has already shown significant potential in its preview build.

Edge Drop serves not only as a clipboard manager but also offers light file management capabilities. It discreetly resides on the left side of your screen, becoming accessible with a simple mouse swipe or via the keyboard shortcut (Alt + C). Users can download Edge Drop from its official website and explore further details on GitHub. However, it’s worth noting that the app’s name may change, as Microsoft has a feature called “Edge Drop” that is being phased out, suggesting a possible trademark consideration.

Windows 11 already boasts a robust built-in clipboard history, accessible via the Win + V shortcut. This feature supports item pinning and device syncing, making it a staple in many users’ workflows. Despite the introduction of Edge Drop, it remains a valuable tool that I personally won’t be parting with anytime soon.

While Windows 11’s clipboard is predominantly keyboard-driven, Edge Drop caters to a more mouse-oriented experience. For those engaged in creative projects, the ability to drag and drop items into neatly organized stacks feels intuitive and seamless. This functionality evokes memories of my experience with the now-defunct HyperSpace TrackPad Pro, which transformed my workflow in video editing, complementing rather than replacing my mouse.

In a similar vein, Edge Drop presents itself as a convenient clipboard manager that is always just a gesture away, carving out a niche alongside Windows 11’s native clipboard functionality.
