Microsoft Halts Delivery of Problematic Windows 11 Update
Microsoft has put a pause on the distribution of the KB5039302 update that was released on June 25th. The update, although containing some interesting features, has been found to cause Windows 11 PCs to get stuck in a continuous restart loop.
The bug affects Windows 11 version 23H2 and version 22H2, but Windows servers remain unaffected by this issue.
Luckily, KB5039302 is an optional update, so not all Windows 11 devices have it installed. It serves as a preview of the standard update scheduled for release on Patchday in July 2024. Therefore, it will only be present on your Windows 11 computer if you specifically chose to install it.
Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, stating that after installing the update, some devices may fail to restart and get stuck in a loop. The company is currently investigating the issue, particularly focusing on devices utilizing virtual machine tools and nested virtualization features like CloudPC, DevBox, and Azure Virtual Desktop.
While Microsoft works on a solution, the problematic update is not being offered through Windows Update and Windows Update for Business. This means that the update may not be available for installation on your device at this time.
If you find yourself stuck in the restart loop after installing the update, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue:
– Wait for Windows 11 to enter the recovery environment by itself
– Select Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then Uninstall Updates
– Click on Uninstall latest quality update and confirm the removal of the update
After the update is successfully uninstalled, restart your computer, and it should function normally again.
Microsoft is actively working on a fix for the problem and plans to include it in one of the upcoming updates.
