Global Outages Impact Businesses and Health Services

Businesses and health services worldwide have faced disruptions due to global outages caused by a software update for Microsoft 360 apps. Airlines, banks, TV networks, and health services relying on these apps were affected.

The outages began at 1 a.m. EST following a software update for Microsoft Windows operating systems issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. Delta, United, and American Airlines had to cancel more than 1,200 flights, with Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport experiencing 245 cancellations and 416 delays.

In a statement, Delta mentioned, “Delta has paused its global flight schedule this morning due to a vendor technology issue affecting several airlines and businesses. We are working to resolve the issue quickly.” Banks in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Britain also reported disruptions.

Microsoft addressed the issue, stating, “The underlying cause has been fixed, but residual impact is still affecting some Microsoft 365 apps and services. Additional mitigations are being implemented for relief.” The company assured that impacted scenarios are progressing towards full recovery.
