Outbyte has introduced a new application, Camomile, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency for Windows 10 and 11 systems. This free app focuses on optimizing CPU performance to reduce power consumption by up to 34 percent, thereby supporting environmental sustainability efforts.
The Camomile app operates by adjusting CPU voltage and frequency to prevent unnecessary power spikes, a common occurrence with default chipset configurations. These spikes often lead to CPU overheating, increased fan noise, and reduced system efficiency. By maintaining CPU operations within recommended speeds, Camomile helps address these issues, extending battery life and enhancing the overall user experience.
Moreover, Camomile’s impact extends beyond individual users, contributing to environmental initiatives by lowering the carbon footprint associated with IT equipment.
For instance, Outbyte estimates that using Camomile on 100,000 PCs for eight hours daily could save energy equivalent to the gasoline required to drive 675,528 gallons or the annual electricity consumption of 1,185 homes.
Performance Study Results
A study evaluating the app’s performance revealed significant reductions in temperature and power consumption when Camomile was enabled. Despite a minor drop in CPU frequency, the processing of tasks like handling an Excel file with a million rows experienced only a 14-second delay.
