Microsoft has recently acknowledged that its latest Windows update, version 24H2, has caused disruptions for certain Ubisoft games. This update, which marks the third significant enhancement to Windows 11 since its launch three years ago, has been gradually rolled out throughout the month.
Impact on Ubisoft Games
Players who have installed the update, particularly those who accessed it during the Preview phase over the summer, have reported that several Ubisoft titles are no longer functioning properly. Microsoft confirmed these issues through a statement on its support site, noting that users may encounter unresponsiveness during game startup, loading, or even during active gameplay. In some instances, a black screen may appear.
The games impacted by this update include:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Star Wars Outlaws
To mitigate these problems, Microsoft has implemented a “compatibility hold” on devices with any of the affected games installed. This means that the latest Windows update will not be automatically deployed to these systems until the issues are resolved.
In light of the situation, Microsoft has advised users against manually updating to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until a solution is in place.
Temporary Solutions from Ubisoft
Ubisoft has taken steps to address the situation by releasing a temporary hotfix for Star Wars Outlaws for players who have already updated their systems. However, the company cautions that this fix is not comprehensive and that users may still experience performance issues until a more permanent resolution is available.
“We have just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues playing on Windows 11 24H2,” Ubisoft stated. “Please note that you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know.”
