Microsoft Postpones Release of Recall Feature in AI Copilot+ for Windows 11
Microsoft has announced that the release of the Recall function in AI Copilot+ for Windows 11 has been postponed. Originally scheduled to be available from June 18, it is now uncertain when or if this feature will be accessible to members of the Windows Insider Program.
On May 20, the news of Recall’s release surfaced. This feature enables Windows to automatically capture screenshots of user activity in the background and analyze them using AI to retrieve information. Users can essentially “rewind time” to find lost information and recall specific actions.
However, since its unveiling, Recall has faced significant criticism regarding security and privacy concerns. The Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK has even initiated an investigation into the matter. Researchers have found that the information captured by Recall is stored in public SQLite databases, potentially accessible to other users locally or through malware.
Despite Microsoft’s reassurances that access to Recall would require Windows Hello authentication and real-time encryption of information, the company has decided to delay the feature’s release in order to enhance its security measures.
