Microsoft has recently acknowledged a significant compatibility issue arising from the installation of Windows 11 version 24H2, which has inadvertently affected several popular Ubisoft titles, including Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. According to reports from VGC, the tech giant has updated its support documentation to indicate a temporary block on Windows 11 for users who have these games installed.
Compatibility Concerns
The company stated, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games.” Players may find that their games become unresponsive during startup, loading sequences, or even during active gameplay. In more severe cases, users could be met with a frustrating black screen.
The titles impacted by this compatibility hold include:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
To mitigate these issues and enhance the overall Windows update experience, Microsoft has implemented a compatibility hold on devices that have these games installed. As a result, these devices will not be prompted to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel.
In response to the situation, Ubisoft has rolled out an update addressing some of the concerns in Star Wars Outlaws through its major Title Update 1.4. However, Microsoft cautions that players may still encounter problems even after this update. Currently, no specific timeline has been provided for a comprehensive fix, leading to a recommendation for PC gamers to refrain from updating to version 24H2 if they wish to avoid these complications.
