In a significant development for Windows 11 users, the optional update released on January 28 has addressed a persistent issue affecting non-admin users. This long-standing bug within the Windows 11 24H2 version had restricted regular users from modifying their time zone settings in the Date & Time section of the Settings app.
The problem was initially acknowledged by Microsoft back in November 2024, and the recent patch, identified as KB5050094, is now available to rectify this limitation. While admin users were able to navigate the Date & Time settings without any hindrance, non-admin users faced challenges that have now been resolved with this update.
How to fix the Date & Time bug in Windows 11 without installing the update
For those who prefer not to install the optional KB5050094 update, a workaround exists to adjust the Date & Time settings using the Control Panel. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open the Start menu and type “Control Panel” in the search bar.
- Once in the Control Panel, use the search function to find “change the time zone” and select the top result.
- In the Date and Time window that appears, click on the ‘Change time zone…’ button to make your adjustments.
Alternatively, you can access the Date and Time settings directly through Windows Run. Simply press Windows + R, type timedate.cpl, and hit Enter to open the Date and Time window.
While Microsoft is currently rolling out this fix through the optional update, it is important to note that all users will receive the resolution automatically on February 11, coinciding with the February 2025 Patch Tuesday updates.
