An update for Windows 11 users, intended to resolve various issues including system freezes in the Edge web browser, has inadvertently introduced its own set of complications. Microsoft has issued a cautionary notice to all users regarding the September 2024 KB5043145 (OS Builds 22621.4249 and 22631.4249) update, which may cause devices to enter a cycle of repeated reboots. This unsettling situation has resurrected the infamous blue screen of death, leaving many users still reeling from the earlier CrowdStrike update debacle in July. Additionally, some users have reported encountering a green screen freeze.
The Microsoft Warning For All Windows 11 Users
Released on September 26, Microsoft’s latest update to the Windows 11 operating system has sparked considerable frustration among users. While the KB5043145 update was designed to introduce new features—such as the ability to share local files directly from search results on the taskbar and the addition of a sign-out command to the Start menu, as well as addressing freezing issues with the Edge browser and Task Manager—it has also brought along some unwelcome surprises.
Microsoft has confirmed that this update can leave users facing a Windows 11 system that “restarts multiple times or becomes unresponsive with blue or green screens” after installation. Compounding the issue, some users have reported that the Automatic Repair tool activates following several reboots. On the security front, Microsoft has indicated that this troublesome update may inadvertently trigger BitLocker recovery, adding another layer of inconvenience for affected users.
Regrettably, there currently appears to be no immediate solution to this predicament. Microsoft has stated, “We are currently investigating this issue. We will provide an update when more information is available.”
For those who have not yet uninstalled the Windows 11 update, it may be prudent to hold off until Microsoft identifies the root of the problem and implements a fix.
