Microsoft is taking significant steps to enhance the performance of Windows 11 by gathering more comprehensive data on performance-related issues. This initiative is being rolled out through feedback from users testing preview builds of the operating system.
According to reports from Windows Latest, a new feature in the Dev channel preview build encourages testers to report instances of sluggish performance. Microsoft has stated, “As part of our commitment to improving Windows performance, logs are now collected when your PC has experienced any slow or sluggish performance.” This proactive approach allows Windows Insiders to provide valuable feedback, enabling the Feedback Hub to automatically collect logs that can help identify the root causes of performance issues more swiftly.
Users have reported various performance challenges with Windows 11, particularly sluggish search functionality and inconsistencies with File Explorer. While not every user has encountered these problems, many have experienced noticeable delays, especially on older hardware. For instance, one user noted that their Surface model laptop exhibited sluggishness in File Explorer, while their desktop remained unaffected.
These performance hiccups can be frustrating, especially since they impact essential components of the user interface. Microsoft’s initiative aims to address these concerns, and there is hope that with the cooperation of testers, the company can better understand and rectify the performance shortcomings of Windows 11.
It is important to note that data collection is limited to those using the preview builds of Windows 11. The logs are stored on the testers’ devices and are not accessible to Microsoft unless the testers voluntarily submit feedback. This ensures that user privacy is respected while still allowing Microsoft to gather the insights needed to enhance the operating system’s performance.
