Windows Insider Program Updates: New Builds Released for Beta and Experimental Channels
For participants in the Windows Insider Program, particularly those enrolled in the Beta (26H1) and Experimental (26H1) channels, a fresh build is now available for installation. As is customary, these builds trail behind the more advanced 25H2 and the newly introduced 26H2 versions, leading to a somewhat limited array of new features. However, there are still noteworthy enhancements to explore.
The latest builds include Beta (26H1) build 28020.2818 and Experimental (26H1) build 28120.2824. Upon examination, it appears that both builds share a majority of the same updates and modifications:
- Personalization Enhancements: Users can now enjoy DIB image support for their desktop backgrounds, alongside various improvements to the Personalization > Background settings page. Additionally, there’s support for utilizing a slideshow across multiple displays, complemented by several bug fixes.
- Windows Recovery Environment (WRE) Enhancements: A new networking capability has been introduced, allowing WRE to automatically reuse eligible Wi-Fi profiles that are already saved in Windows 11.
- Print Management Adjustments: The modernized Print Management experience has been temporarily removed as Microsoft seeks to refine it based on user feedback. However, the traditional Print Management tools remain accessible, with plans to reintroduce the updated experience in a future build after further enhancements.
- File Explorer Improvements: The Home page of File Explorer now retains the state of its sections—whether expanded or collapsed—enabling users to seamlessly continue from where they left off.
- Magnifier User Interface Updates: Users will notice various improvements, including updated icons and refined spacing and padding for a more cohesive experience.
- Emoji Update: The inclusion of Emoji 17.0 adds a fresh touch to user interactions.
- Taskbar Reliability Improvements: Enhancements have been made to bolster the reliability of the Taskbar.
One notable distinction for the Experimental (26H1) build is the introduction of first launch reliability for the new WinUI-based Run dialog, a feature that aims to enhance user experience right from the outset.
