Microsoft’s fake “Uninstall Microsoft Edge” guide is gone—but it’s still misleading

In a recent update, Microsoft has revamped its “How to Uninstall Microsoft Edge” page, redirecting users to a general guide about the browser instead of providing the sought-after uninstallation instructions. This shift comes after the previous page faced criticism for sidestepping the uninstallation process while promoting Edge’s features, including its AI capabilities.

The New “How to Uninstall” Page is Just as Unhelpful

The newly titled page, “Get to Know Microsoft Edge,” focuses on showcasing the latest features and enhancements of the browser, including a recap of the 2024 Microsoft Edge Year in Review. Ironically, it even includes a download link for Edge at the end, which seems misplaced for users who were initially looking for guidance on how to remove the browser from their systems.

Previously, the uninstallation guide had garnered attention for its claims, such as Edge providing “25 extra minutes of battery life compared to Chrome.” However, the updated page has shifted its tone, no longer engaging in direct comparisons with competitors like Google Chrome. Instead, it emphasizes the positive attributes of Edge, leaving out any mention of the word “Uninstall.” This omission may leave users feeling frustrated, as they navigate through paragraphs of praise for a browser they wish to remove.

Despite the changes, the core issue remains: users seeking straightforward uninstallation steps are met with a promotional narrative. For those looking for clear guidance, alternative resources are available that focus solely on the uninstallation process, devoid of any endorsements for Microsoft Edge.
