Windows 11 Preview Build 27898 Unveils New Features
In the latest preview build, 27898, Microsoft introduces a series of enhancements aimed at refining user experience on Windows 11. One notable feature is the ability to automatically shrink Taskbar items when users have an abundance of pinned applications or running programs, ensuring that the interface remains organized and accessible.
Additionally, the build brings a revamped pop-up system for applications requesting access to essential features such as the system webcam or microphone. This change is designed to improve clarity and user control over permissions. Another significant enhancement allows users to expand the speech-to-text capabilities by adding custom words to the dictionary, further personalizing the voice access experience.
While the timeline for rolling out these features to the general public remains uncertain, anticipation builds for the upcoming Windows 11 25H2 update, expected to launch in the coming months. This annual feature update follows the pattern set by previous iterations, such as last year’s substantial 24H2 overhaul, which introduced numerous under-the-hood modifications.
In contrast, the 2023 23H2 update primarily served to increment the version number and refresh Microsoft’s security update schedule, as each yearly update is guaranteed new security patches for two years post-release. The forthcoming 25H2 update appears to be on the more modest side, with Microsoft indicating that it will share a servicing branch with the 24H2 version.
What sets the 25H2 update apart is its unique deployment strategy. Features will be “staged” on devices running Windows 11 24H2, meaning the necessary code will be installed through Windows Update but remain inactive until the official update is applied. This approach allows for a smoother transition, enabling users to unlock features that have already been prepared in advance.
