As the calendar year draws to a close, Microsoft is preparing for its annual holiday break, which means that the Windows 11 Insider program will pause for the festive season. With less than two weeks remaining until 2025, the company has confirmed that there will be no new Insider updates or scheduled Windows updates during this period. The last build for 2024, designated as Windows 11 26100.2705 from the Dev Channel, was released earlier this week, showcasing innovative AI-powered features designed for Copilot+ PCs equipped with Intel and AMD processors.
Updates on Windows Builds
For those who prefer the stability of established Windows builds over the unpredictability of preview releases, it’s important to note that there will also be no scheduled updates for Windows 10 or 11. Microsoft previously announced that the November 2024 non-security update series would mark the end of updates for the year. In light of the holiday season and the company’s “reduced operations,” the planned December 2024 non-security updates have been skipped, although the usual Patch Tuesday updates were released as scheduled.
Looking ahead, the next wave of Windows 10 and 11 preview builds, along with optional non-security updates, is anticipated to arrive in January, once the holiday hustle and bustle subsides. The new year will commence with CES 2025, a showcase of cutting-edge consumer electronics and innovative devices, including the much-anticipated first commercially available laptop featuring a rollable display. While exciting developments loom on the horizon, the focus for now is on enjoying the warmth and joy of the upcoming winter holidays.
