PowerToys, a suite of free utilities designed to elevate the Windows 11 experience, is set to introduce an exciting new feature known as “PowerDisplay.” This innovative addition will empower users to manage brightness and other settings across multiple monitors with ease, all accessible through a convenient shortcut in the system tray. Niels Laute, a program manager at Microsoft, recently hinted at this upcoming feature on X, showcasing the enthusiastic spirit of the PowerToys team.

The GitHub page for PowerToys reveals that while the original user interface was generated by AI, it has undergone significant enhancements since its inception. Currently, the utility’s code is under review, with a focus on eliminating bugs to ensure a seamless user experience. Although there are existing applications like DisplayBuddy and Twinkle Tray that facilitate multi-monitor management, Windows 11 has faced challenges in this domain.
Inspiring Windows 11
PowerToys stands out as a user-friendly application, appealing to both casual users and tech enthusiasts alike. It serves not only as a collection of utilities but also as a testing ground for new features and ideas that may eventually find their way into Windows 11. Notably, the FancyZones utility within PowerToys has influenced the enhanced window snapping functionality in Windows 11, albeit in a more streamlined form.
As PowerToys continues to evolve and refine its offerings, there is hope that PowerDisplay will follow a similar path. Ideally, this would mean that while the advanced controls and power options remain exclusive to PowerToys, Windows 11 could still benefit from the most effective elements of this innovative utility.
