The public preview of Windows Admin Center version 2410 is now available

Microsoft continues to enhance its Windows Admin Center app, a tool designed to streamline the management of Windows PCs and services for IT professionals. Following the public preview release in July, the tech giant has now introduced another iteration, version 2410, as detailed in a recent blog post.

Key Features and Recommendations

It is important to note that version 2410 cannot be installed alongside the previous version, 2311, or any earlier iterations. Microsoft advises against deploying this preview version in production environments, emphasizing that users operating under a high availability (HA) setup should refrain from using this release. The company has clarified:

Any users utilizing a high availability (HA) setup should not install this preview version with the intent to use HA. HA is not currently supported in our v2 backend implementation, nor in the 2410 public preview release.

The July update introduced a host of new features, including support for .NET Core 8, enhancements to the virtual machine tool, an updated installer, a new data migration flow, and various user interface adjustments. In contrast, the latest release focuses primarily on refining existing functionalities.

Among the notable improvements in version 2410 is the enhancement of the virtual machine tool. Microsoft aims to expedite the process of listing virtual machines, thereby enabling administrators to perform their tasks more efficiently. A new toggle feature has been added, allowing users to switch between a “detailed” mode and a “light” mode in the virtual machines tool:

Our primary goal is to provide you with the list of VMs as soon as possible so you are empowered to efficiently carry out your administrative tasks. To make this easier, we’ve added a toggle in the top right corner of the Virtual machines tool that will allow you to switch between a “detailed” mode and a “light” mode.

Additionally, version 2410 addresses several bugs, further enhancing the overall user experience. Microsoft anticipates that the new Windows Admin Center app will reach general availability by the end of 2024, promising continued improvements and innovations for its users.
