This hidden Windows 11 setting lets you kill unresponsive apps right from the taskbar
When faced with an unresponsive application in Windows 11, users typically resort to the Task Manager, sifting through a list of processes before selecting the End Task option. However, there’s a more streamlined approach that can enhance your workflow by adding an End Task menu item directly to your taskbar.
How to Add ‘End Task’ to Your Taskbar
To activate this feature, begin by navigating to the Settings menu. Click on System, then scroll down to find For Developers. Select this option to proceed.
Within the For Developers section, continue scrolling until you locate the End Task option. Simply toggle it on, and voilà! You can now close the Settings window, and the End Task feature will be readily available on your taskbar.
Things to Know
It’s important to note that this feature is classified as a developer tool. As the saying goes, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Utilizing the End Task option from the taskbar will terminate the application immediately, without prompting you to save any unsaved work. This abrupt closure mirrors the action taken in Task Manager, where the application is forcefully killed.
This method bypasses the usual shutdown protocols that allow applications to save files and perform necessary housekeeping tasks. While this can be a highly effective solution for dealing with a malfunctioning application, it does come with the risk of data loss. Therefore, users should weigh the convenience against the potential consequences before enabling this feature.
