This update could finally solve Windows 11’s sluggishness

Microsoft has taken a significant step forward in enhancing the user experience of Windows 11 with the introduction of a new logging system, unveiled in a test build released on Friday. This innovative feature is designed to automatically gather performance logs when users encounter sluggishness, a concern that has been voiced since the operating system’s launch in October 2021.

Streamlined Feedback Mechanism

The new system empowers Windows Insiders to provide valuable feedback regarding “slow or sluggish performance.” By enabling the Feedback Hub to automatically collect logs, Microsoft aims to expedite the identification of underlying issues. The company stated, “As part of our commitment to improving Windows performance, logs are now collected when your PC has experienced any slow or sluggish performance. Windows Insiders are encouraged to provide feedback when experiencing PC issues related to slow or sluggish performance, allowing Feedback Hub to automatically collect these logs, which will help us root cause issues faster.” Users are advised to select the Desktop > System Sluggishness category when submitting feedback, ensuring that the necessary logs are captured. These logs are stored locally in the %systemRoot%TempDiagOutputDirWhesvc folder and are transmitted to Microsoft only upon feedback submission.

Ongoing Performance Enhancements

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Windows 11’s performance. In 2023, Microsoft implemented various improvements, including refinements to the Taskbar, notifications area, and quick settings panel. Additionally, the impact of startup applications on overall performance was notably reduced. The 24H2 update, released last year, also showcased significant performance enhancements, particularly for older hardware.

Future-Ready Driver Certification

Looking ahead, Microsoft is set to further enhance Windows drivers with the upcoming 25H2 update. This update will introduce new certification requirements that mandate static analysis for driver certification, aimed at identifying potential issues in driver code before deployment. This proactive approach underscores Microsoft’s commitment to delivering a robust and efficient operating system.
