Microsoft has unveiled the optional KB5046714 Preview cumulative update for Windows 10 22H2, introducing a series of six bug fixes aimed at enhancing user experience. Among these improvements is a significant resolution for a bug that hindered users from uninstalling or updating packaged applications, a common frustration for many.
This cumulative update preview is part of Microsoft’s routine “optional non-security preview updates,” typically rolled out at the end of each month. It serves as a testing ground for Windows administrators, allowing them to preview upcoming fixes and features set to be included in the December Patch Tuesday release.
Unlike the standard Patch Tuesday updates, this preview does not encompass security enhancements. Windows users can easily install this update by navigating to Settings, selecting Windows Update, and performing a manual ‘Check for Updates’.
As this is an optional update, users will be prompted to confirm their desire to install it by clicking the ‘Download and install’ link, as illustrated in the accompanying image.

What’s new in Windows 10 KB5046714
While this update does not introduce new features, it focuses solely on addressing existing bugs. The key fixes included in the KB5046714 update are as follows:
- [App list backup] Fixed: Win32 shortcuts might not back up to the cloud.
- [Copy cloud files] Fixed: Dragging and dropping files from a cloud provider folder could result in a move instead of a copy.
- [Motherboard replacement] Fixed: Windows fails to activate after a motherboard replacement.
- [Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA)] Fixed: This update updates profiles for certain mobile operators.
- [Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) printer] Fixed: Windows may stop responding when using an IPP USB printer.
Additionally, although not explicitly listed, this update rectifies the issue preventing users from uninstalling or updating packaged applications, such as Microsoft Teams, following the installation of the WinAppSDK 1.6.2 package. Users may have encountered an error message stating, “Something happened on our end,” when attempting to update or uninstall an app via the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft elaborated, “If you are an IT administrator managing packaged apps through PowerShell using the ‘Get-AppxPackage’ command, you might observe the error ‘Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CFA’, ‘Please contact your software vendor. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073CFA)’ in PowerShell.” Furthermore, it was noted that applications like Microsoft Teams and various third-party apps could be affected if uninstallation and reinstallation were attempted during the update process.
According to Microsoft, there are currently no known issues associated with this update. For those interested in a comprehensive overview of the fixes, a complete list can be found in the KB5046714 support bulletin.
