Windows 11 24H2 now blocked on PCs running older AutoCAD software

The recent rollout of Windows 11 24H2 has encountered its share of challenges, with a new issue emerging that affects users of Autodesk’s AutoCAD software. Specifically, those running AutoCAD 2022 will find themselves unable to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system.

Microsoft’s Response to Compatibility Issues

In a statement, Microsoft acknowledged that AutoCAD 2022 could lead to bootup complications on systems upgraded to Windows 11 24H2. As a precautionary measure, the tech giant has opted to block the automatic delivery of this update for computers that have AutoCAD 2022 installed. Fortunately, users with other versions of AutoCAD can proceed with the upgrade without any hindrances.

This development is not unprecedented; Microsoft has previously implemented similar blocks for Windows 11 24H2 in response to various compatibility concerns. Instances of incompatible hardware and issues with Auto HDR have also led to temporary restrictions. Typically, these blocks are lifted once the underlying problems are resolved, as seen with earlier challenges involving problematic USB devices such as printers and scanners.

While users can still manually download and install Windows 11 24H2 on machines running AutoCAD 2022, Microsoft strongly advises against this course of action. The company is actively working on a solution and will provide updates as they become available.
