Windows 11 adds a wealth of new features with optional August update

KB5064081 has been released as an optional update for Windows 11 24H2, providing users with a range of new features and enhancements. As an optional update, it will not be automatically installed on compatible PCs; users must take the initiative to download it through Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog.

New Features and Enhancements

This update introduces a personalized start page for Microsoft’s AI-driven Recall feature, allowing users to easily revisit their past activities and seamlessly continue tasks. The new navigation bar enhances user experience by enabling quick access to “Home,” “Timeline,” “Feedback,” and “Settings” pages. Additionally, the “Recent Snapshots” section provides a comprehensive overview of current snapshots, while the “Top Apps” and “Top Websites” sections keep users informed about their app activity.

Among the notable improvements is the addition of a seconds display to the clock in the Notification Center, which requires user activation in settings. Furthermore, users will enjoy enhanced customization options for widgets on the lock screen, including the ability to adjust size and position, as well as remove any unwanted widgets.

Microsoft has also revamped the interface for Windows Hello, presenting various authentication options in a more modern aesthetic. The Task Manager has seen a revision as well, with CPU performance now displayed uniformly across all areas, ensuring a consistent user experience.

Upon installation of the optional update KB5064081, Windows 11 will reflect a build number of 26100.5074. For those who prefer to wait, KB5064081 will transition to a mandatory cumulative update for all compatible Windows 11 computers during the next Patch Tuesday in September.
