Windows 11 is adding another Copilot button nobody asked for

In a recent update to the Windows 11 Insider Preview, Microsoft has introduced a new feature that allows users to share the contents of an open application directly with Copilot Vision. This feature becomes accessible when hovering over an app in the taskbar, presenting a “Share with Copilot” button that invites users to engage with the AI chatbot.

Once activated, Copilot Vision scans the displayed content, providing insights and context. For instance, if you’re curious about a sports celebration captured in a photo or want to delve deeper into a sculpture you’ve snapped, this tool aims to enhance your understanding through interactive dialogue with the AI.

However, the reception of this feature may not be as enthusiastic as Microsoft hopes. Users are already encountering a plethora of Copilot buttons scattered across various applications, including Microsoft Paint and Notepad, as well as on keyboards and even some PC models. The introduction of yet another button may feel excessive to many.

Interestingly, the same Windows 11 preview also showcases a more practical Copilot feature that translates on-screen text, suggesting that Microsoft is exploring multiple avenues to integrate AI into user experiences. The company has indicated that this taskbar capability is still in the trial phase, leaving room for adjustments or even removal in future builds before it reaches the broader user base.
