Streamlined Screen Mirroring
The latest update aims to simplify the process of mirroring an Android smartphone’s screen directly onto a Windows desktop. Reports indicate that this feature is being tested with a select group of Windows 11 users, and it is integrated within the Phone Link panel that resides in the Start menu. This panel itself began its rollout recently, marking a significant step in enhancing user experience.
Initial tests suggest that the feature works particularly well with Samsung Galaxy smartphones, leveraging the OneUI interface to create a seamless transition between mobile and desktop environments. However, it’s important to note that this screen-mirroring capability is compatible only with specific Android devices, including:
- Samsung Galaxy models
- Asus (ROG-branded)
- Honor
- OnePlus
- Oppo
- Surface Duo
- Vivo
- Xiaomi
For those eager to utilize this feature, the rollout is anticipated to coincide with a cumulative update for Windows 11, which is expected on June 10. However, initial availability may be limited, as not all users have received the Phone Link panel yet. The rollout for this panel began in April for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 24H2, but wider access only became available in May. Reports from various online forums indicate that some users are still awaiting this update.
While the new shortcut for screen mirroring may take a bit longer to reach all users, patience is advised. Microsoft is also focusing on deeper integration between Windows 11 and mobile devices, hinting at future capabilities that could allow for seamless app usage across both platforms, reminiscent of Apple’s Handoff feature.
