Windows 11 KB5046617 and KB5046633 cumulative updates released

Microsoft has rolled out two critical cumulative updates for Windows 11: KB5046617 and KB5046633, targeting versions 24H2 and 23H2. These updates are essential for addressing security vulnerabilities and various system issues that have surfaced in recent months.

To install these updates, Windows 11 users can navigate to Start > Settings > Windows Update and click on ‘Check for Updates’. Alternatively, the updates can be manually downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

What’s new in the November 2024 Patch Tuesday update

Upon installation, the build number for Windows 11 24H2 (KB5046617) will be updated to 26100.2314, while 23H2 (KB5046633) will reflect 22631.4460. This latest patch brings significant fixes to enhance user experience, including resolutions for a black screen issue when using Alt-Tab and an error in Task Manager that displayed zero running processes.

Here’s a detailed overview of the fixes and improvements included in the updates:

  • [Task Manager (known issue)] Fixed: The count for the number of groups is now accurate on the Processes tab when “Group by type” is enabled.
  • [Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)] Fixed: Users can now access their Dev Drive without issues.
  • [Internet connection] Fixed: Affected devices can now connect to the internet, resolving problems caused by duplicate DHCP options that hindered IPv4 connections.
  • [Notifications] New! Users can now disable suggestions to turn off notifications from specific apps by selecting the ellipses (…) in the notification or through Settings > System > Notifications.
  • [Wi-Fi password dialog] New! The dialog now features the updated Windows 11 visual design.
  • [Narrator]
    • New! A new shortcut has been added: press the Narrator key + Ctrl + X to copy the last spoken content to the clipboard.
    • New! The Narrator will now automatically read the contents of email messages in the new Outlook, mirroring the functionality of Outlook classic.
  • [Start menu] New! The “All apps” section has been renamed to “All.”
  • [ALT + Tab] Fixed: Resolved the black screen issue that occurred when switching between certain windows.

  • [Copilot key settings] New! Users can configure the Copilot key on their keyboard to open specific applications or the Search function.
  • [Windows Disk Cleanup app] Fixed: This update improves the accuracy of free space estimates.

For those still utilizing Windows 11 23H2, similar bug fixes are included:
