Windows 11: Password button may be missing on the lock-screen

In the wake of the recent release of Windows 11, version 25H2, Microsoft initially touted a flawless performance. However, this assertion has been met with some challenges as users have begun to encounter issues post-launch. Currently, the official known issues page lists only four problems, but a new concern has emerged that has yet to be documented there.

Emerging Issue Details

The newly confirmed issue affects both Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. It originated with the August 2025 non-security preview updates and persists in all subsequent updates. Users have reported that the password button is conspicuously absent from the lock screen sign-in page.

According to Microsoft, “After installing the August 2025 non-security preview update (KB5064081) or later updates, you might notice that the password icon is not visible in the sign-in options on the lock screen.” Despite its invisibility, the password button remains functional; users can still click on the area where the icon should appear to enter their password and gain access to their devices.

While the company has not disclosed the extent of this issue, its late reporting—first noted on November 30, 2025—suggests that it may not be widespread. Currently, there is no established workaround other than the aforementioned method of clicking in the invisible area to sign in. Microsoft has assured users that a resolution is in the works and will provide updates as they become available.

For now, users are encouraged to either utilize the hidden password entry method or explore alternative sign-in options, if available. Those interested in tracking the progress of this issue can do so on Microsoft’s support website.
