Windows 11 Recall officially comes to Intel and AMD

Microsoft is broadening the reach of its Recall AI feature, now extending support to Copilot+ PCs equipped with Intel and AMD processors. This comes after the feature faced a series of challenges that delayed its rollout. Initially, Recall was made available exclusively for Qualcomm-powered devices in a late-November update for Windows 11, allowing Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel to utilize this innovative tool.

Stability and Security Enhancements

After encountering several setbacks, including difficulties in saving snapshots, the Recall feature has now stabilized, paving the way for its deployment across a wider array of Copilot+ PCs. The latest software update, version 26120.2510 (KB5048780), will be accessible to Intel and AMD users starting Friday, although it remains exclusive to the Windows Insiders Dev Channel.

Microsoft has taken a cautious approach to address previous privacy concerns surrounding Recall. The feature requires users to manually enable the snapshot functionality after installation. Furthermore, users have control over how long snapshots are retained and can delete them at their discretion. Notably, sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, and personal identification numbers are not recorded within these snapshots.

In addition to enhancing the Recall feature, the update includes crucial security improvements. Users will now need to authenticate their identity through Windows Hello facial recognition before accessing any snapshots. Moreover, the use of BitLocker and Secure Boot is also required to ensure a secure experience when utilizing Recall.

Another highlight of this update is the introduction of the “Click to do” feature. This functionality allows users to interact with snapshots directly, enabling actions such as copying text or saving images with a simple click using the Windows key and mouse. This intuitive feature aims to enhance user productivity by seamlessly integrating snapshot interactions into everyday tasks.

Recall has evolved significantly since its initial announcement earlier this year. Originally slated for a preview release in June, the feature faced numerous controversies that led to its withdrawal and subsequent delays. With the latest updates, Microsoft appears poised to deliver a more reliable and user-friendly experience for its Copilot+ PC users.
