Exciting Updates Coming to Windows 11
Many long-time Windows 10 users were not thrilled with the Start menu overhaul in Windows 11, missing key functions like taskbar functionality. However, there is good news on the horizon for those who were disappointed.
Windows 11 build 22635.3785 recently arrived on the beta channel, bringing some cool updates. One notable feature is the ability to drag pinned apps from the Start menu to the taskbar to pin them there. This was a much-needed improvement as previous builds only allowed pinning apps from the “All Apps” list.
The new drag-and-drop functionality is a step in the right direction, although some users have noted that the animations still need some polishing before the public release. Unfortunately, the option to pin folders directly to the taskbar is still missing, which may disappoint some power users who find quick folder access from the taskbar convenient.
The Start menu’s “All Apps” view has also seen some tweaks in the latest build. Microsoft experimented with a more modern layout resembling an app drawer in previous builds but has now reverted to a traditional alphabetical list arranged horizontally. Additionally, folders are now supported in the “All Apps” list, expanding with a slick animation.
Microsoft seems to be working on giving users more control over the taskbar’s appearance, with new options under taskbar settings hinting at upcoming toggles to hide certain icons and trim down the system tray clock. This move is welcomed by users who have criticized the cluttered taskbar in Windows 11.
While not officially listed in the changelog, @PhantomOfEarth discovered some hidden features, including jump lists for apps on pinned Start apps. Microsoft also mentioned the addition of the ability to share content to an Android phone directly from the Windows 11 share window via the Link to Windows app, making file sharing between devices more convenient.
