Windows 11’s File Explorer is finally fixing an annoying file size quirk

In a move aimed at enhancing user experience, Microsoft is reinstating the much-missed ‘Refresh’ and ‘Print’ options to the right-click context menu in Windows 11’s File Explorer. This decision comes in response to user feedback regarding the streamlined context menu introduced in previous updates, which had removed several frequently-used features.

Currently, these essential functionalities are being tested in the Windows 11 preview Build 26300.8376, with a broader rollout anticipated in the near future. The return of these options addresses a significant pain point for users who found the simplified menu lacking in practicality.

Alongside the reinstatement of these options, Windows 11’s File Explorer is also set to feature a more user-friendly display for file sizes. Previously, file sizes were indicated in kilobytes, which made it cumbersome to quickly assess larger files. The upcoming update will present file sizes in megabytes or gigabytes for larger files, while smaller files will continue to be displayed in kilobytes. This change promises to enhance the overall readability and scannability of file information.

When will the changes be implemented?

All these enhancements are part of the Windows 11 preview version, Build 26300.8376, with expectations for general availability to users in the coming weeks. As reported by Windows Latest, these updates reflect Microsoft’s commitment to refining the user experience based on community feedback.
