The Epic Games Store debuts on AltStore, Android, and iOS devices

The tide is turning for Epic Games on mobile

Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe have made a comeback on iOS and Android devices through The Epic Games Store. Epic Games had previously announced plans to use its marketplace to reintroduce these popular titles on mobile platforms after a lengthy legal battle with Apple and Google.

Currently, the Epic Game Store is available for download on iPhones within the European Union, where Apple is prohibited from blocking third-party platforms under the Digital Markets Act. It will also be accessible on Android devices globally and on independent mobile stores like AltStore PAL.

In a blog post celebrating the launch, Epic commended the Digital Markets Act for enabling its return to EU territories but criticized Apple for still blocking access elsewhere. The company also acknowledged the installation process on iOS and Android as “lengthy,” attributing the complexity to Apple and Google.

“The tide is turning and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition,” said Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney. “We are thankful to the European Commission for allowing us to bring the Epic Games Store and our games to iOS users in the EU. This progress signifies a step towards more competition and choice for developers and consumers.”

Despite the challenges faced, Sweeney remains optimistic about the future of Epic Games on mobile. He mentioned that the legal battle with Apple, which led to the removal of Fortnite from iOS, may have cost the company approximately billion in revenue. However, he believes this sacrifice is worthwhile for the company’s long-term freedom.
