In the wake of the recent launch of Windows 11 24H2, also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, users have encountered a series of challenges that have marred the excitement surrounding its release. The update, which was highly anticipated, has been met with a range of issues that have prompted Microsoft to take precautionary measures.
Significant Issues Identified
Microsoft has acknowledged a total of six major issues that have led to the suspension of automatic updates for many users. These problems are particularly impactful, affecting a variety of devices and applications, including those used by gamers. The following issues have been officially documented on the Windows release health page:
- Safe Exam Browser Compatibility: Devices running version 3.7 or earlier of the Safe Exam Browser application may encounter failures to open, rendering them incompatible with the new update.
- Easy Anti-Cheat Blue Screen Errors: Users of older driver versions for Easy Anti-Cheat may experience system freezes and blue screens, indicating a lack of compatibility with Windows 11, version 24H2.
- Fingerprint Sensor Malfunctions: Certain device models are experiencing issues with fingerprint sensors post-lock. A compatibility hold is in effect, although updating device firmware may provide a solution.
- Wallpaper Customization Application Issues: Multiple wallpaper customization applications are not functioning as intended, leading to a compatibility hold. Users are encouraged to update their applications to potentially resolve these problems.
- Intel Smart Sound Technology Driver Conflicts: Devices utilizing affected Intel SST drivers may encounter blue screen errors, indicating compatibility issues with the new update.
- Asphalt 8 Performance Problems: Users playing Asphalt 8 may find that the game periodically stops responding, prompting a compatibility hold to ensure a smoother update experience.
While not every system will be affected by these conditions, the cumulative effect of these significant issues means that a considerable number of computers will remain ineligible for the update for the foreseeable future. As users navigate these challenges, the anticipation for a more stable and functional Windows 11 experience continues to grow.
