Google Gemini has gotten a facelift on Android — here’s what has changed

Google has embarked on a journey to enhance user experience with the rollout of a fresh, streamlined design for the Google Gemini app on Android devices. The previous iteration of the app was often criticized for its cluttered interface, which featured the Gemini logo, an array of topic suggestions, and a “Chats & Gems” section that could overwhelm users. However, the latest update brings a breath of fresh air, transforming the app into a more user-friendly platform.

Revamped User Interface

Upon launching the app, users are greeted with a simple and inviting welcome message, accompanied by a small chat bubble positioned in the upper left corner. This bubble serves as a gateway to previous conversations, allowing for easy access to chat history. The text input field has been redesigned to present a more cohesive look, now appearing as a single line, reminiscent of a natural conversation flow. Additionally, the microphone and camera options have been seamlessly integrated into this streamlined design, enhancing accessibility and ease of use.

In a further nod to user convenience, the Gemini Live waveform feature has been relocated to the bottom right corner of the screen, ensuring that it is readily available without cluttering the interface.

The new design not only enhances usability but also presents a visually appealing interface that invites engagement. While it bears some resemblance to the ChatGPT app, which continues to offer user suggestions and art generation capabilities, Gemini’s latest update focuses on simplicity and efficiency.

Enhanced Features and Accessibility

Recently, Google introduced the Gemini Live Voice Mode, now available to millions of Android users at no cost. This innovative feature allows for real-time conversations with the app, activated at the touch of a button. Although voice interaction is not a novel concept in the realm of chatbots, Google asserts that this mode aims to deliver a conversational experience that closely mimics human dialogue.

This redesign is poised to attract users who may have previously been deterred by Gemini’s earlier tendency to provide outdated information. For those eager to explore the revamped app, a curated list of engaging prompts is available to help users maximize their experience with the new Gemini app.
