A recent update to Windows 11, known as the 24H2 update, has stirred quite a bit of discontent among users, particularly gamers. Known for its ambitious scope, this major release has not been without its share of complications, leading to a series of challenges that have caught the attention of both Microsoft and Ubisoft.
Gaming Glitches and Blocked Updates
In an unusual turn of events, Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows 11 24H2 update has introduced significant issues with several popular Ubisoft titles. As a precautionary measure, the update has been blocked on devices where these games are installed, ensuring that players do not face further disruptions.
Five specific titles have been identified as problematic under the new update: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. While Ubisoft has attempted to provide a workaround for one of these games, it unfortunately resulted in performance issues, leaving players in a lurch.
After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.
Microsoft has taken a proactive stance by advising against manual installation of the 24H2 update on systems with any of the affected games. Currently, there is no definitive fix available, but both Microsoft and Ubisoft are collaborating to resolve these issues.
For those who find themselves in the unfortunate position of having a game freeze or become unresponsive, Microsoft has provided a simple guide to exit the game:
- Open Task Manager. This can be accomplished by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Start button and select Task Manager from the menu.
- In the Task Manager window, look for your game in the Processes tab. It might be listed under the name of the game or the game launcher.
- Click on the game’s name to highlight it. Then, click the End Task button at the bottom right of the window. This will close the game.
As the situation unfolds, gamers and industry observers alike will be keenly watching for updates from both Microsoft and Ubisoft, hoping for a swift resolution to these challenges.
