Microsoft rolls out Recall for Intel, AMD-based Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft is expanding the availability of its Recall Preview, now welcoming Dev Channel Windows Insiders who operate on AMD and Intel-based Copilot+ PCs. This update, delivered with build 26120.2510 of Windows 11, signifies a broader inclusion of users beyond those with Arm-compatible Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered devices. However, Microsoft advises users to ensure their latest drivers are installed prior to exploring the preview features.

According to Microsoft, “With the AI capabilities of Copilot+ PCs, it’s now possible to quickly find and get back to apps, websites, images, or documents just by describing their content.”

Recall’s Journey

The journey of Recall has been anything but smooth. Initially unveiled at Microsoft’s Build event, the feature faced immediate scrutiny and was promptly retracted due to concerns surrounding privacy and security. In the wake of this setback, Microsoft assured Windows Insiders that a revised version would be available for testing within weeks. However, those weeks extended into months as engineers diligently worked to refine the software and address the initial shortcomings.

After a hiatus, the preview made its return in November, exclusively for Windows Insiders utilizing Qualcomm Arm PCs. Notably, the feature was off by default, and users soon encountered a hiccup where snapshots were not captured if an update had been applied prior to joining the Dev Channel. Despite these challenges, Microsoft has pressed forward, now allowing users with Intel and AMD-based Copilot+ PCs to engage with this innovative technology.

Additionally, the Recall preview is now accessible to Windows Insiders located in the European Economic Area (EEA). Alongside Recall, users on the Dev Channel can also utilize Click To Do on their Intel and AMD-based Copilot+ systems. Since its initial release, Microsoft has made several enhancements to the experience, introducing new interaction methods and additional functionalities, including the ability to summarize or rewrite text.

While Recall has stirred debate over potential privacy infringements, Click To Do stands out as a practical tool, enabling users to interact with snapshots or images independently of Recall. Other noteworthy updates include the introduction of CoCreator in Microsoft Paint for Intel and AMD devices, as well as AI-driven image manipulation features in the Photos app.
