Microsoft Confirms Scan For Updates Broken In Windows 11
A recent support document from Microsoft has revealed that users operating on Windows 11 version 24H2 may encounter difficulties with the “Scan for Updates” function. The company acknowledged, “This Windows configuration update addresses an issue in Windows that can cause the scan for Windows updates to stop responding.” This problem primarily affects those who have not yet installed the May Windows non-security preview update, KB5058499, or any subsequent updates.
The initial report regarding this issue was brought to light by the German publication Deskmodder.de, which suggested that a simple restart of Windows could potentially resolve the update scanning problem.
Despite these complications, Microsoft strongly advises all Windows 11 users to install KB5058499, as it provides a “permanent resolution for this issue.” Alternatively, users can opt for the KB5062324 Windows configuration update. To do so, navigate to Settings | Windows Update and toggle the option for “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.” After making this adjustment, a restart of your Windows 11 system will be necessary, followed by selecting “Check for updates.”
