In a strategic move to bolster its production capabilities, Japanese gaming powerhouse Square Enix has made a noteworthy investment in the Danish indie developer BetaDwarf. While the exact financial details of this partnership remain undisclosed, the collaboration is poised to enhance BetaDwarf’s development efforts significantly.
Enhancing Development with Strategic Support
Currently, BetaDwarf is immersed in the creation of its top-down RPG, Vaultdwellers. Square Enix’s General Manager of Business Development, Hideaki Uehara, expressed enthusiasm about the potential of this investment, stating, “Square Enix is always looking for high-quality games and talented development studios. When I played Vaultbreakers, I was genuinely excited by the experience of connecting with other players and exploring its rich game world.”
Uehara’s visit to BetaDwarf further solidified the decision to invest, as he was inspired by the team’s mission and passion for gaming. “We decided to invest in them to help realize their dream and bring this game to players around the world,” he added.
On the other side of the partnership, Steffen Kabbelgaard, CEO and game director at BetaDwarf, shared his excitement about the collaboration. “Being accompanied by Square Enix on our journey is an amazing access to a combination of knowledge, talent, and resources,” he remarked. “We are already very far with our dream game Vaultbreakers: we have a huge amazing community, and we have already run 15+ tests with more than 50,000 players who constantly enable us to refine.”
Kabbelgaard emphasized the significance of this support at such a pivotal stage in production, stating, “Getting this additional support feels amazing when we are far into production already. I can really see how this enables a home run versus having just started on an uncertain journey – yeah, I’m just really excited about our situation!”
