Team Fortress 2 continues to demonstrate its enduring appeal, recently making a notable ascent on Steam’s top sellers chart. Following an update on July 24, which introduced a wealth of community-generated content, the game surged into the top 10 for several days and has since maintained a position within the top 20. This resurgence has quelled fears that Valve might have overlooked the beloved title.
Community Contributions Fuel New Content
The July update brought an impressive array of additions, including:
- 10 new maps
- 23 new items
- 4 new taunts
- 14 new Unusual effects (seven for hats and seven for taunts)
All these enhancements stemmed from the dedicated TF2 community, showcasing the game’s vibrant ecosystem. Alongside these new features, Valve implemented general fixes and balancing updates, further refining the player experience.
In June, Valve hinted at the need for a “much-needed update,” inviting community submissions for an upcoming release scheduled for August 27. Additionally, a second major update is anticipated around Halloween, making the July update a prelude to these larger changes. Players still have the opportunity to contribute their ideas ahead of the August rollout.
Adjustments and Ongoing Events
A rare Saturday update on July 26 served primarily to revert a previous change regarding one of the new taunts, Texan Trickshot. Initially adjusted to have a shorter range, Valve quickly recognized the oversight and restored the taunt to its original specifications. Players can now acquire Texan Trickshot along with the other new taunts from the Mann Co. Store.
The summer event, running through September 15, offers players the chance to earn special Summer 2025 Unusual effects through cosmetic and taunt cases, excluding crates. This seasonal event, coupled with the excitement surrounding the Texan Trickshot taunt, propelled TF2 over 50 places on Steam’s top sellers chart this week, reaffirming that the game remains a formidable presence in the gaming landscape.
