The 21st HollyShorts Film Festival is set to celebrate a host of distinguished figures in the film industry during its upcoming event in Hollywood, scheduled from August 7 to 17. Among the honorees are director Jared Hess, actor-director David Oyelowo, and actress Katherine McNamara.
A Visionary Recognized
Jared Hess will be honored with the Visionary Award, a testament to his remarkable directorial journey that spans from the cult classic “Napoleon Dynamite” to the recent Warner Bros. blockbuster “A Minecraft Movie,” featuring stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black. His animated short, “Ninety-Five Senses,” which premiered at HollyShorts in 2021, even garnered an Oscar nomination.
Expressing his gratitude, Hess remarked, “I’m incredibly grateful to be honored with this special award. HollyShorts is a festival I’ve always admired for its dedication to new and innovative storytellers. I’m very humbled to be recognized by this wonderful community.”
Illuminating Talent
David Oyelowo will receive the Luminary Award for his outstanding contributions as both an actor and director. He gained significant acclaim for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in the critically acclaimed film “Selma” and has made notable appearances in productions such as “The After Party.”

Katherine McNamara, known for her versatile roles across various genres, will also be acknowledged for her contributions to the industry. As the festival approaches, anticipation builds around the celebration of creativity and storytelling that HollyShorts embodies.
