Microsoft has announced that its latest operating system, Windows 11 24H2, has achieved a remarkable milestone, now recognized as the most reliable version of Windows to date. This update comes at a pivotal time as Windows 10 approaches its end-of-life phase. According to telemetry data collected through July 2025, Windows 11 24H2 is reported to be 24% less prone to unexpected restarts, commonly referred to as crashes, a significant improvement over its predecessor.
Enhanced Reliability and Performance
Monika Sandhu, Microsoft’s senior program manager, emphasized this achievement in a recent blog post: “We’re also proud to share that Windows 11 24H2 is our most reliable version of Windows yet. Compared to Windows 10 22H2, failure rates for unexpected restarts have dropped by 24%. These improvements reflect deep collaboration across engineering, design, and user research teams and a commitment to making Windows more resilient for everyone.”
This enhancement is particularly beneficial for professionals who rely on their machines for critical tasks, as unexpected restarts can lead to data loss and decreased productivity, ultimately increasing operational costs. Additionally, Microsoft has made strides in crash dump collection, reducing recovery time from 40 seconds to just two seconds on most consumer devices. These advancements are expected to extend into the forthcoming Windows 11 25H2 update.
Innovative Features for User Convenience
In a bid to further streamline user experience, Microsoft has introduced a built-in feature designed to automatically detect widespread boot issues via the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). This feature scans Windows Update for targeted fixes and applies them without requiring user intervention. It’s noteworthy that Windows 11 Home comes with this feature enabled by default, while users of the Pro, Education, and Enterprise editions will need to enable it manually. Nevertheless, IT administrators maintain complete control over its operation.
Accompanying these updates is a redesign of the crash page, moving away from the traditional sad face emoticon and QR code. This new look aligns more closely with the overall design language of Windows 11, presenting a cleaner and more user-friendly interface.
Time to Upgrade
For those still utilizing Windows 10, this may be an opportune moment to consider an upgrade to Windows 11. With Microsoft focusing its efforts on enhancing performance and stability for its latest operating system, users can expect a more secure and efficient experience. It’s important to note that support for Windows 10 is set to conclude on October 14, 2025, making the transition to Windows 11 not just beneficial, but necessary for ongoing security and support.
