Recent reports from Android Auto users indicate a couple of notable issues that have emerged, disrupting the otherwise stable experience many have come to expect. Users are experiencing a washed-out display, alongside problems with the Spotify app that have rendered its controls less effective.
One of the primary concerns revolves around Spotify, which has been displaying a blank widget on the Android Auto dashboard. This widget, instead of showing the currently playing track or podcast, simply prompts users with a “Tap to Open” message, even when media is actively playing. Users have noted that while the Spotify app itself reflects the correct media, the widget fails to function properly. Additionally, in-car controls, such as the skip buttons on the steering wheel, are also reportedly not responding as intended.
This issue first came to light in July, coinciding with an update to Spotify that introduced “Jam” support. It has persisted for many users, particularly those driving Subaru Foresters, and a recent Reddit thread has confirmed that this is a widespread problem affecting numerous drivers.
While the timeline for a resolution remains uncertain, it is anticipated that updates from the Spotify app will address these glitches.
In tandem with the Spotify issues, another problem has surfaced that appears to necessitate intervention from Google. Users have reported that their displays are appearing washed out, with colors lacking depth. Specifically, areas meant to be black are showing up as gray, detracting from the visual experience.
Although this particular issue has not been observed universally, a significant number of users have voiced their concerns. The lack of specific version numbers for the Android Auto app complicates matters, leaving it unclear whether this is the result of a faulty update or a broader server-side adjustment.
