pgEdge Announces Launch of pgEdge Platform v25

pgEdge, Inc., a pioneer in the realm of distributed Postgres solutions, has unveiled the latest iteration of its platform, pgEdge Platform v25. This release builds upon the advancements made in Platform v24, reinforcing pgEdge’s status as the only open-source distributed Postgres solution fully aligned with the standard PostgreSQL database.

Key Features of pgEdge Platform v25

With a focus on enhancing usability and performance, Platform v25 introduces several noteworthy features:

  • True Zero Downtime for Node Addition and PostgreSQL Upgrades: Customers can now add new nodes without any write downtime, enabling seamless integration of new nodes into the cluster while maintaining full read and write capabilities across all nodes. This feature also supports rolling upgrades for major and minor PostgreSQL versions, allowing for a smoother transition without taking nodes offline.
  • Expanded Automatic Conflict Resolution: The platform now automatically manages a wider array of conflict scenarios, including:
    • Transforming duplicate inserts with the same primary key into updates.
    • Resolving attempts to delete non-existent rows as expected behavior.
    • Checking for non-null unique constraint violations and resolving them with a Last-Write-Wins approach.
  • Improved Performance: Enhancements in exception handling and lag monitoring have been implemented, providing:
    • In-memory exception handling for significantly faster performance.
    • Accurate lag tracking calculated at the target node, eliminating inflated lag reports during periods of inactivity.
  • Interactive Installation: A new interactive installation process guides users through the setup, ensuring that configuration files are correctly created and that first-time users have a smoother experience.
  • Backup & Restore Strategy / pgBackrest Integration: pgBackrest is now included by default, simplifying the backup configuration process. A comprehensive strategy guide is also provided to assist users in establishing effective backup and restore practices.
  • ACE (Active Consistency Engine) Enhancements: Significant improvements to ACE enhance its capabilities for validating and repairing data consistency, particularly in large-scale datasets, offering faster performance and greater automation.

“We are very pleased to announce that pgEdge Platform v25 is available and, as before, built on standard open source PostgreSQL,” stated Phillip Merrick, Co-founder and CEO of pgEdge. “In collaboration with our customers, partners, and community, we have designed these new features to make the product easier to use while continuing to enhance our distributed Postgres capabilities in further support of high availability and low latency.”
