I just found out I’ve been using Silksong’s powerful Thread Storm ability wrong this entire time

As I navigate through the intricate world of Hollow Knight: Silksong, I find myself approaching the climax of Act One, where one of my most relied-upon abilities has been Thread Storm. This powerful area-of-effect (AOE) multihit attack can be acquired relatively early in the game. However, it seems I’ve been underutilizing its potential. Despite deploying it in several boss encounters, I recently discovered, thanks to a public service announcement video by Jason Mondal on YouTube, that I could maximize its effectiveness.

Instead of merely tapping or holding the right bumper on my controller once to activate Thread Storm, I learned that rapidly mashing the button extends its duration without consuming additional silk. This technique allows for greater damage output per cast. The trade-off, of course, is an increased vulnerability to counterattacks, a risk inherent to the ability itself.

Mastering Thread Storm

In practice, my preferred strategy involves positioning myself diagonally, slightly above and to the side of a boss. This placement not only ensures that I catch them in the AOE but also minimizes the likelihood of taking damage from their attacks. Against foes susceptible to staggering from Thread Storm, the benefits of maximizing its duration become even more pronounced. The ability can prove invaluable during those challenging wave fights.

Where to find Thread Storm in Hollow Knight: Silksong

For those eager to harness the power of Thread Storm, it can be found in the latter half of Act One, specifically in the Greymoor area. Instead of heading west along the main path to Bellhart, venture east past Shakra, who sells the area map, until you reach a dead end at an enterable building.

Inside, players will encounter a formidable wave fight, where Thread Storm would indeed be a significant asset. Overcoming this challenge will spawn ladders made of balloons outside, allowing for a downward attack in mid-air to pogo off them, ascending to the room’s upper section and ultimately leading to a new area. The shrine containing Thread Storm awaits at the end of a platforming segment in this final chamber.
